Beauty

We all hold beauty within our souls,

a beauty that follows us everywhere we go.

It is a glorious essence that floods every vein,

like water down a stream after it rains.

It is a rhythmic beat controlling the tempo of all that is

blanketing the world with harmonic bliss.

It is a light from the divine that often goes unseen,

a hand painting the canvas of life behind the scene.

Even when circumstances seem to decline,

the sun continues to rise, and the stars align.

Our beauty is the beauty of the universe,

one that can only be hinted at through verse.

I went to a poetry workshop last week, and the topic was Beauty. What I find beautiful is biology; the cycles that we see in nature and how resilient life is. I wrote this poem about the beautiful light that we all hold inside, the light that is capable of illuminating the darkness and guiding us out of the shadows.

Everyone and everything has a light inside that wants to shine, a gift they are able to share with the world, a role that they are meant to fulfill in this life, and that is beautiful to me. The way that life is perfectly crafted keeps me thinking, and I am often blown away by how fined-tuned the universe is just to support life on our planet.

This beautiful light that we each hold inside is unique to each being. It can’t be fully articulated by one person; it can’t be written down or drawn. It can only be hinted at and theorized since each person must identify the light for themselves.
